1996 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX "Meggin"

Yep, she looks fast even standing still. Or, at least, I can make her look that way with Adobe's Photo Deluxe.

Hi! I'm Bob and I'm a turboholic. (Everybody say "HI BOB!") This is Meggin outside our home in Willow Park, Texas. More photos are here, here and here.

Actually, this is my second GSX. I bought my first one in late 1989, a white GSX with black roof, gray & black interior, blah, blah, blah. I purchased both GSX's from Huggin's Honda/Mitsubishi in Fort Worth, as well as several Honda's. I  have to say, Huggins IS NOT Satan! My wife, mother-in-law and I have only received excellent service and respect from the folks at Huggins. Not to mention some really good deals.

How I got this car for $19k! I was looking for a new GSX back in May of `97. The all-wheel drive models are not big sellers in this part of Texas, particularly coming into Spring. Huggins located one red GSX in Houston, but since I am adverse to red cars, I politely declined. The next day, the sales manager called and asked if I would be interested in an untitled, Executive Car that had 4k miles on her and all the equip I wanted, in one of the two colors I wanted (white or silver). I went to the dealership after work and looked her over. She was perfect, obviously not abused or demo'd as the casting teats were still on the tread edges! Window sticker said $26, 929.  I said "How much?" He said "$19,000." I almost dislocated my shoulder tryin' to get to my checkbook before he changed his mind.

What I did with the rest of the money I had been lurking on the Talon Digest for a while, and knew a bit about this Buschur fellow. Seems he has this hot-rod DSM (Diamond Star Motors) that runs 10's in the quarter. Although I'm not interested in drag racing, I have long lived by

Bob's Rule #1: You can't have too much power, too many tools or too much love in your family. Since I was retiring from active motorcycle road racing, I found myself with additional time and money for new projects. In relatively short order, I had installed a K&N FIPK (air filter), Buschur Racing Upper Inter cooler pipe with pre `95 BOV, and 2.5" turbo back exhaust system with hi-flow cat and custom dual tips. I asked David to build the dual tips to keep the car from looking too racy. Other than the Riken 16"x7.5" wheels with 225/50 Dunlop D40M2 tires, there are precious few outward signs to warn potential victims other motorists about the performance of this car.

Bob's Rule #2: Old age and treachery will win out over youth and exuberance every time. I have to admit that one of my favorite things to do on rainy days is hunt for Mustangs, Camaros, Firebirds and other V8 Muscle cars. The all-wheel drive of the GSX is the icing on the cake. I monitor the true performance of this engine package with a VDO -25~+30 psi boost gage mounted in a single pod A-pillar mount. I'm considering changing the mount out for one of the new lo-teck mounts if they are as "factory looking" as I've read. In addition to the engine mods, David also supplied me with a front strut tower brace that noticeable improves turn in. I'll probably add a rear brace after I finished paying off Christmas. The only other mod I'm considering is a fuel pump upgrade to forestall the dreaded fuel cut and possibly one of Technomotives ECU mods. As it is currently, Meggin spikes 21psi of boost @3900 RPM and settles in at 15~16 psi from 4200 RPM up till common sense and a desire to keep my license and insurance rates low take over.  TOP

And there's more I'll be adding to this page as new mods are made and more photos come available. I'm searching for photos of my original GSX and will add them if possible. Stay tuned! I'm thinking about autocrossing this coming season (`98) since my need for noisy speed and lateral G's has to be fed somehow. Until then... TOP
